Are Medication & Therapy Truly Effective?

As the question “Should I Really go to the Doctor?” is risen, so is whether medication and therapy are worthwhile. And if so, to what extent?

Yes, medication and therapy do work. However… That is only if you truly need them, they’re the right ones for you, and you follow up as required. Furthermore, they may not make miracles and only be a fraction of what would lead you to recover and/or be well. If issues are at play, actively and repeatedly making you ill, they should be addressed. Because otherwise, medication and therapy would only mitigate symptoms rather than solve the problems afflicting you.

Oftentimes, changes in habits and lifestyle work tremendously in improving your health. Sometimes you’re just subjecting yourself too much to toxic environments, people, and/or activities - and it takes a toll on you, physiologically and psychologically. And until you learn to recognize what is detrimental to you, what are your limits in withstanding it, and how you can combat and manage what they produce in you, medication and therapy won’t do much. Then, seeking to increase and continue the latter in hopes that they will become more effective, could backfire if not just become a waste.

Regardless, there is no shame in resorting to medication and therapy if you believe they would be helpful to you and proceed responsibly. Even the strongest (physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually) at one point or another need at least some form of those - especially when facing extremely challenging situations and circumstances as they step outside of their comfort zone for personal growth. What is worse is remaining untreated, multiplying and passing on your ills while denying them and refusing to face them.

Simply, try not to become overly reliant on medication and therapy and instead try to get to the root of what is plaguing you.
