Monster Care

Figured I’d write a little something for the monsters this month. Are you a monster? Do you love a monster? Or both? No matter the case, I’ll be covering a number of them, adding little hints to care for them.

So now it’s on you to properly identify what kind of monster you’re dealing with and how you can best proceed. And if you’ve already managed without this guidance, you can pat yourself on the back, with the affirmation that you find here, for being an awesome monster caregiver!

Come Play (2020)

So as you’d all know, there are numerous monsters, creatures of the night. Each type with countless variations in terms of traits. But let’s begin with the most widely known and what most commonly benefits them. As well as what serves them all.

Creatures of The Night
As creatures of the night, it is quite likely that they’ll feel at home and function optimally in dimly lit ambients. They may do well in the daytime and under the sunlight (except for vampires, unless they’re exceptions to the rule) or in brightly lit spaces, but they’d appreciate some amount of darkness surrounding them so that they won’t feel out of place.

Witches (or “cats”)
Witches, at times under the guise of cats, love learning. Knowledge is Power to them. They want to know how to make potions and cast spells. What ingredients to mix in their brew and be able to obtain even the rarest ones. They may be working on enchantments or on remedies. Or on bringing something to life with their magic and obssessive hard work. A cabin in the woods serves them, so that they can mess around without worrying about all the strange sights, sounds, and scents that they produce as they perfect their crafts. Also to have room for all their books, trinkets, and more. But anywhere they can still do this is fine.

Vampires (or “bats”)
Vampires, at times under the guise of bats, love feasting on delicious blood. Usually by biting and sucking on necks or on wrists. They’re just sexy like that. And even if they are asexual or mean nothing sexual by their acts, that doesn’t stop them from being arousing to others. But indeed, the mere act of feeding themselves is likely to lead to lust and pleasure. They also usually have highly refined taste. Whether their preferences lie on elegance and luxury or on rougher and grungey aesthetics, or anywhere else, they undeniably have great style. They must be as ‘extra’ as they delight in being.

Werewolves (or “wolves”)
Werewolves, at times under the guise of regular wolves, love hunting and fighting with their all. For better or for worse, they’re a destructive force that won’t be held back by weak chains and bars. They are wild and enjoy the wilderness. Civilization, by contrast, is tedious and restrictive. This doesn’t necessarily make them brutes, but they have little to no patience for arbitrary rules and norms that get in the way of their instincts. While some may eat a green or two, what they really crave is meat.

Spirits
Spirits may love attention or hate it. Or maybe they’re after the just-right kind of attention from the just-right kind of person, and won’t settle for anything else or less. They’ll possess people and objects in order to communicate, to call for who or what may sate them. Something is tormenting them, possibly causing them to lash out, and they’re looking for what will ease or end this, although they might not know exactly what that is and how to get it. Ultimately, they’re seeking to be at peace. However, the means to that could appear to be revenge.

Demons
Demons love trickery and mischief. They like to play - and especially play others. It may be harmless fun or… not. Perhaps waiting to meet those few that aren’t so easily fooled, that can be clever like them and beat them at their game. It might infuriate them but still amuse them. Also, remember the term “flamer”? They’re that.

Furthermore, it is possible that your monsters, or “monsters”, have ADHD. And as October is also the ADHD awareness month, I had to point it out. There’s a lot that can be said on the topic but, basically, please help them - or at least let them - work with their brains and not against them. To find the stimulation and engagement that they need to operate how they best can rather than pressuring or even forcing them to be something that they can never be.

As someone with ADHD, I know what a pain it is. But also how it can come with outstanding gifts. It genuinely makes me happy to see people who used to struggle with and because of ADHD finally be doing well, stellar even, in life, to have found their ‘thing’ and how to go about it. And not only in a “There’s still hope for the rest of us” kind of way, but also in an “I’m so relieved for you, too... You deserve that and more.”

Do you have ADHD? Do you relate to any of these monsters or to a combination of them?
